So finally you decided to build a website or a blog. That was easy, wasn't it? Now you need to show it to the world.
If you need your site to succeed you Need traffic. Not only that it may bring you prospective customers but also your visitors may advertise further your product or service. The best news is that you can really generate a good amount of visitors even for Free!!! Just be prepared to invest some time and don't expect results overnight. Here I will show you some of the basic ways to build a stable traffic to your website. Of course if you decide to have a proper exposure of your site you may get anadvice from a real SEO professional but if you decide to do it yourself here are my suggestions:
#1 Proper Site Structure
There are three HTML tags that every page should have at the top of the page, right below the head tag and they are: Title Tag, Meta Description Tag and Meta keyword Tag.
If you want the engines to know what your pages are about you should really take good care of these tags. If you would like to do the job by yourself you may consider reading proper HTML tutorial before starting.
In each of these tags you should mention your main keyword at least once and not more than twice.
#2 Submit to the Main Search Engines
There are hundreds or thousands of search engines out there on the web but the reality is that many of them are simply portals of the main ones. The most popular search engines at the moment are Google, Yahoo, Live, AOL, Ask and Bing. They are all you really need to be concentrated on at the moment.
Once your site has enough content, submit you URL to the big four:
Google, Yahoo, Live (MSN) and Bing. And please be patient. It takes some time for you site to appear. If you find that your site does not appear in the major engines you may consider looking at your content.
You should have at least 14-15 pages as the engines love sites with a lot of information.
#3 Participate in Link Exchanges
One of the most important criteria for ranking of the sites used by the search engines is the link popularity. They want to see how many different websites are pointing back to you. And more important is the quality of the links. Are they relevant to your site's theme.
Links that appear within the context of an article are the best. Don't just put all the links on a "Links" page but instead put the link within a text with relevant content.
#4 Write Articles
There is no better way to gain credibility than writing useful articles. You may do so for your own website or even you may write for others. Many blogs and websites increase their content by using 3rdparty contributors.
#5 Comment on Related Blogs
Most blogs allow you to leave comment and in your comment you may leave your website address. It's important to find blogs that relate to the theme of your site. Don't comment on any blog. You should make your comment useful in order to attract the reader's attention so they may want to visit your site.
You may also consider joining Social Networking Sites. They are really good options for promoting your site. MyLot is excellent choice for this. It's a forum like site where you earn $$$ per month as well as getting tips or just discussing different topics. If you decide to give a chance for the PTC earning sites then EMS - eMoney Space is a very good site and it's online for several years already. In their forum you will find really helpful information. Give it a try!!!
#6 Publish a Newsletter
It can keep your visitors informed with what's new at your site and it also provides you with the opportunity to attach additional products or services to them. The best approach is to mix useful information with product recommendation. You should not promote something in every e-mail you are sending.
Use auto-responders. These are automated messages that are sent to your subscribers at specific intervals. This way you will stay in touch with you visitors.
#7 Utilize Online Forums or Message Boards
The great thing about posting on message boards or forums is that most of them allow you to add a signature file to your profile so every time you post, a link to your website appears. Find a forum in your site's theme and become a regular member. Visit frequently and offer suggestions and advises. Over the time the people will be more likely to visit your website, take your advice and buy the product or service you are offering. You may also create your own message board or forum.
These are the main ways to attract traffic to your site. Of course there are more such as: creating an e-Book with helpful information that you want to present to your audience; publishing reviews of products and services; broadcasting yourself on You Tube, Direct Banner Advertising, etc.
And here is my last piece of advice…
Never stop improving your site. Learn how to write to effectively communicate to your audience. This can make a big difference in how you make cash from your site.
